On 4 November 2019, in Saint-Ouen-sur-Seine, in the presence of the Prime Minister of France, Edouard Philippe along with members of the French government and regional and local politicians, SOLIDEO launched the start of the work for the new Athletes’ Village.
The first site, located on Rue Marcel Cachin in Saint-Ouen-sur-Seine, began with a phase to strip the building. This essential stage consisted of emptying the interior of the existing building, before starting on the dismantling stage, which was completed on 4 December 2019.
All the elements and materials were sorted before being recycled and recovered. The red bricks from the building façade were removed to be crushed in order to be used as substrate for the public areas in the Athletes’ Village.
More generally, SOLIDEO has set a target, shared with the companies that are carrying out work over the whole Olympic and Paralympic Urban Development Zone, that at least 80% of waste generated on the site will be recovered.
